			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This course provides K-6 teachers with an increased awareness of major economic concepts and how those concepts can be taught through children’s literature.  Teaching strategies and a wide variety of resources are an integral part of the class.</p>
<p><strong>This course will be especially useful for:</strong></p>

</ul>
<p><strong><img class="size-medium wp-image-311 alignright" style="margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;" title="1772296" src="http://econed.info/kueconed/wp-content/uploads/1999/04/1772296-200x300.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="300" />Course participants will:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Use the <em>Kansas Standards for History and Government; Economics and Geography </em>and the <em>National Voluntary Standards in Economics</em> in developing an understanding of major economic concepts for elementary students.</li>
<li>Acquire a comprehensive foundation in economic concepts covering such topics as scarcity, goods and services, barter, productivity, decision-making, interdependence, and supply and demand.</li>
<li>Experience teaching activities that enhance instruction in elementary education.</li>
<li>Be able to integrate economic concepts into social studies and language arts curriculum.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Course Dates: June 14 and 15, 2010</h2>
<p>Audience: K-6th grade teachers</p>
<p>Graduate credit hours: 1 (2nd credit optional)</p>
<p>Day/Time: Monday and Tuesday, June 14 and15, 8:00-3:30 PM</p>

<h2>This course can be taken for graduate credit or professional development points.</h2>
<h2>Non-Credit Option:</h2>
<p>A registration fee of $50 is due June 1, 2010 to participate in this course for professional development. Pre-register below to receive details on fee submission.</p>
<h2>Graduate Credit Option&#8211;Teacher Scholarships Available:</h2>
<p>Regular tuition per graduate credit hour: $394.50<br />
Teacher tuition discount available*:  $175<br />
Reduced tuition after discount applied:  $219.50 for qualified teachers.</p>
<p>*K-12 teachers currently under contract with a district in Kansas will pay only $219.50 for 1 KU graduate credit hour, a savings of $175. Details on requirements/costs for the 2nd optional credit will be discussed on the first day of class.  Teacher tuition discounts provided by Kansas Council on Economic Education. Rate information does not include graduate admission fees or out-of-state rate charges, if applicable.</p>
