The course features guest speakers and field trips to acquaint Kansas teachers with economic concepts and international trade topics particular to this region of the world. Current economic issues affecting our state are explored within this context and tied to the Kansas Standards for History and Government; Economics and Geography. Course materials and instruction by the KU Center for Economic Education (KU CEE)  and the KU Center for East Asian Studies (KU CEAS).

This course will be especially useful for:

• 6th grade World history and Geography teachers
• 7th grade Geography teachers
• High School World History and Economics teachers
• Anyone with an interest in this region of the world

Summer Institute participants will:

• Use the Kansas Standards for History and Government; Economics and Geography and the National Voluntary Standards in Economics in developing an understanding of the East Asian region.
• Acquire a comprehensive foundation in economic concepts covering such topics as supply & demand, economic systems and international trade.
• Learn about teaching activities that enhance instruction in World history, Geography and Economics.
• Use the tools of economic analysis to investigate current international trade issues affecting the global economy.

Teacher tuition discount available*: up to $683.50

*The first 20 teachers to sign up for credit (must be a K-12 teachers currently under contract with a district in Kansas) will pay only $500.00 for 3 KU graduate credit hours, a savings of $683.50. All other k-12 teachers under contract with a district in Kansas (who are not one of the first 20 to sign up) will receive a $525 tuition discount. Teacher tuition discounts provided by Kansas Council on Economic Education, KU CEE and KU CEAS. Rate information does not include graduate admission fees or out-of-state rate charges, if applicable.
