The Kansas City Fed is located on the west side of Main Street and south of the Liberty Memorial. Complimentary parking is available northwest of the building in the visitor lot and nearby on the adjacent street. A circle drive is also available as a loading and unloading zone. Security

All guests should enter and exit through the Federal Reserve Bank’s north entrance on Memorial Drive.

All guests who are 18 years of age or older are required to bring photo identification (government issued). Guests will undergo security screening upon arrival.

Firearms, explosives, hazardous materials, lethal weapons, illegal drugs, and any other dangerous items, including pocket knives, are prohibited on Bank premises. Metal detectors and x-ray equipment are used to enforce this policy. Any person entering and any purse, briefcase, or other items brought on the premises are subject to being scanned and/or physically inspected.

For security reasons, a guest may not take photographs of security equipment, personnel or Cash operations.

•Attendance both days (June 11, 12) at the Money, Math & Make-Believe Teacher Summit at the Federal Reserve Bank. Optional conferencing time available on Wednesday, June 13, at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park.

•Completion of 2 book annotations in the Classroom CLUEs website with economic concept connections and teaching ideas.

Requirements for 2 KU Graduate Credits

•Completing the requirements for 1 graduate credit plus:

•Completion of 2 additional book annotations in the Classroom CLUEs website with economic concept connections and teaching ideas.

•Completion of 2 lesson plans corresponding to any two books on the Classroom CLUEs website (www.classroomclues.com). The lesson plans should be ones the educator could use with their students and also be uploaded to the Classroom CLUEs website as a resource.

Non-credit option

For educators wishing to receive professional development points for participation, we will distribute certificates of completion for 14 hours of training, to be submitted per your district requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring transcripts for admission if I am choosing the credit option? No, the Easy Admit process does not require transcripts.

How do I qualify for the tuition discount if I’m taking this course for credit? If you indicated on your pre-registration which Kansas school district you are under contract with, you automatically qualify for the teacher tuition discount.

How much do I need to pay right now? If you are attending for professional development only, there is no cost to you for this summit. If you are enrolling for graduate credit, your admission fee and tuition will be billed to your KU financial account and due later this summer.

This 2-part seminar will focus on the ways in which East Asian economies and societies have responded to and shaped global economic trends and patterns over the past two decades, with a particular emphasis on the rise of the Chinese economy.

The Monday evening session will meet at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and will include dinner and a talk by a member of the Fed’s Economic Research Staff on the U.S. – Chinese trade relationship and the role of China in financing the U.S. debt.   Seminar participants will also receive a set of resources on the Fed, money and international finance.

This 2-part seminar will examine the little dragons of the Pacific Rim from the 1960s to the present, and will explore, in particular, the extent to which the Japanese model of development, the so-called developmental state, was also implemented in Taiwan and South Korea. It will examine the relationship between the state and economic development, and the role that states have played in promoting such development in the little dragons.

The course features guest speakers and field trips to acquaint Kansas teachers with economic concepts and international trade topics particular to this region of the world. Current economic issues affecting our state are explored within this context and tied to the Kansas Standards for History and Government; Economics and Geography. Course materials and instruction by the KU Center for Economic Education (KU CEE)  and the KU Center for East Asian Studies (KU CEAS).

This course will be especially useful for:

• 6th grade World history and Geography teachers
• 7th grade Geography teachers
• High School World History and Economics teachers
• Anyone with an interest in this region of the world

Summer Institute participants will:

• Use the Kansas Standards for History and Government; Economics and Geography and the National Voluntary Standards in Economics in developing an understanding of the East Asian region.
• Acquire a comprehensive foundation in economic concepts covering such topics as supply & demand, economic systems and international trade.
• Learn about teaching activities that enhance instruction in World history, Geography and Economics.
• Use the tools of economic analysis to investigate current international trade issues affecting the global economy.
