<p>The Federal Reserve Bank is located at <strong>1 Memorial Drive, Kansas City, MO, 64198</strong>. It is near 27th and Main in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.</p>
<h3>Parking</h3>
<p>The Kansas City Fed is located on the west side of Main Street and south of the Liberty Memorial. Complimentary parking is available northwest of the building in the visitor lot and nearby on the adjacent street.  A circle drive is also available as a loading and unloading zone. Directions to the Fed can be found on their website, <a title="Directions to the Fed" href="http://www.kc.frb.org/moneymuseum/includes/directions.cfm" target="_blank">www.kc.frb.org/moneymuseum/includes/directions.cfm </a></p>
<h3>Security</h3>
<p>All guests should enter and exit through the Federal Reserve Bank&#8217;s north entrance on Memorial Drive.</p>
<p>All guests who are 18 years of age or older are required to bring photo identification (government issued). Guests will undergo security screening upon arrival. Please arrive approximately 5-10 minutes before your workshop start time to allow for the screening process.</p>
<p>Firearms, explosives, hazardous materials, lethal weapons, illegal drugs, and any other dangerous items, including pocket knives, are prohibited on Bank premises. Metal detectors and x-ray equipment are used to enforce this policy. Any person entering and any purse, briefcase, or other items brought on the premises are subject to being scanned and/or physically inspected.</p>
<p>For security reasons, a guest may not take photographs of security equipment, personnel or cash operations.</p>

<p>This 2-part seminar will focus on the ways in which East Asian economies and societies have responded to and shaped global economic trends and patterns over the past two decades, with a particular emphasis on the rise of the Chinese economy.</p>
<p>The Monday evening session will meet at the <a href="http://www.kc.frb.org/" target="_blank">Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City</a> and will include dinner and a talk by a member of the Fed’s Economic Research Staff on the U.S. – Chinese trade relationship and the role of China in financing the U.S. debt.   Seminar participants will also receive a set of resources on the Fed, money and international finance.</p>
<p><strong>Course participants will:</strong></p>

<li><strong>Receive a $100 stipend for attending.</strong></li>
<li><strong>Be eligible to receive a one-time $200 stipend for completing an implementation assignment.</strong></li>

<p>This 2-part seminar will examine the little dragons of the Pacific Rim from the 1960s to the present, and will explore, in particular, the extent to which the Japanese model of development, the so-called developmental state, was also implemented in Taiwan and South Korea. It will examine the relationship between the state and economic development, and the role that states have played in promoting such development in the little dragons.</p>

We will also examine how China has adapted its system to allow it to integrate into and benefit from the global economy, while North Korea has maintained its policy of self-reliance and aloofness from the world.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Next summer, the KU Center for Economic Education will once again team up with the <a href="http://www.kc.frb.org/" target="_blank">Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City</a> to host a 2-day teacher workshop. Much like last summer&#8217;s popular workshop, &#8220;Money-Smart Books,&#8221; the 2012 summit will focus on how to integrate personal finance and economic concepts into your reading and literacy activities using popular children&#8217;s trade books. This year we will also examine how to connect the books and economic concepts to math activities.</p>
<p>&#8220;Money, Math and Make-Believe&#8221; is designed for K-6 teachers or media specialists. More details will be available in the spring.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The 2010</strong> <em><strong>Summer Institute in Economic Education: Teaching About East Asia in the Global Economy, 1200 to the present, </strong></em>provides educators with an understanding of East Asia in the world economy from medieval times to the present, emphasizing trade and trade routes, agricultural and industrial development patterns, and the role of domestic and international politics in promoting and inhibiting economic growth.</p>
<p><img class="size-medium wp-image-333 alignright" style="margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;" title="1582241" src="http://econed.info/kueconed/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/1582241-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" />The course features guest speakers and field trips to acquaint Kansas teachers with economic concepts and international trade topics particular to this region of the world. <em><strong></strong></em>Current economic issues affecting our state are explored within this context and tied to the <em>Kansas Standards for History and Government; Economics and Geography</em>. Course materials and instruction by the KU Center for Economic Education (KU CEE)  and the KU Center for East Asian Studies (KU CEAS).</p>
<p><strong>This course will be especially useful for:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>6th grade World history and Geography teachers</li>
<li>7th grade Geography teachers</li>
<li>High School World History and Economics teachers</li>
<li>Anyone with an interest in this region of the world</li>
</ul>
<p><em><strong>Summer Institute</strong></em> participants will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Use the <em>Kansas Standards for History and Government; Economics and Geography</em> and the<em> National Voluntary Standards in Economics</em> in developing an understanding of the East Asian region.</li>
<li>Acquire a comprehensive foundation in economic concepts covering such topics as supply &amp; demand, economic systems and international trade.</li>
<li>Learn about teaching activities that enhance instruction in World history, Geography and Economics.</li>
<li>Use the tools of economic analysis to investigate current international trade issues affecting the global economy.</li>
</ul>

Total tuition for 3 credit hours: $1183.50<br />
Teacher tuition discount available*: up to $683.50<br />
<strong>Reduced tuition after discount applied: as low as $500.00 for qualified teachers.</strong></p>

All other k-12 teachers under contract with a district in Kansas (who are not one of the first 20 to sign up) will receive a $525 tuition discount. Teacher tuition discounts provided by Kansas Council on Economic Education, KU CEE and KU CEAS. Rate information does not include graduate admission fees or out-of-state rate charges, if applicable.</p>

<p><strong>The &#8220;Silk Road&#8221;</strong> is an ancient network of trails and trading routes connecting East Asia to the Mediterranean. This network became the first real mechanism for globalization, helping to spread goods, beliefs, and technologies far from their areas of origin. Learn how today&#8217;s Silk Road trading is much more than commodities and oil. Our presenters will discuss Mongolia and Central Asia, and how the Global Market is affecting the economy, educational systems, culture, religion, and governments of the countries in this region.</p>
<p><strong>Participants will receive a free curriculum guide</strong>, &#8220;Globalization&#8221; from the Council of Economic Education, a $50 value.</p>
