Teach Math and Money-Smarts with Kids Books!
Join us for a 2-day Summit to help you to teach math, economics and personal finance topics to elementary-age students. Two days of sessions and guest speakers will focus on using children’s literature to teach math and “money-smart” economic concepts.
The University of Kansas Center for Economic Education and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City are teaming up to offer this unique opportunity for Kansas and Missouri teachers!
The Summit can be attended for professional development OR optional KU graduate credit and is designed for K-5 teachers, media specialists and curriculum coordinators.
During the Summit, you will…
- Use the Common Core Math and Kansas Curricular Standards in economics and personal finance to develop an understanding of major concepts for elementary students.
- Acquire a foundation in economic concepts covering such topics as scarcity, money and exchange, goods and services, barter, productivity, decision-making, interdependence, supply and demand, and saving and spending.
- Hear the latest economic outlook from guest speakers of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
- Experience teaching activities that use popular childrens’ trade books and integrate math and personal finance applications.
- Be able to integrate economic concepts into social studies, math and language arts curriculum.
